What to do if I'm not receiving my 2FA or MFA verification code via Text Message (SMS)?

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and two-step verification codes sent via text message keep your 7shifts account secure. If a code doesn't arrive during login or a payroll action, the cause is usually a mobile carrier network delay, an incorrect phone number on your 7shifts profile, active spam filters on your device, or a carrier plan that blocks short-code or premium SMS messages.

Troubleshoot a missing verification code

  1. Use a saved backup code to complete the login or payroll action if the text message doesn't arrive. Learn more about 2-Step Verification.

  2. Check for service delays. SMS providers occasionally experience delays. Wait a few minutes to see if the code arrives.
  3. Confirm your phone number is correct. If you can't log in to check your profile, ask a 7shifts Admin or Manager to verify the phone number listed on your account.
  4. Restart your mobile device and check the app store for any available updates to the 7shifts app.
  5. Check your device settings to confirm that the 7shifts verification number (1-559-513-8718) isn't blocked or marked as spam.
  6. Disable the Filter Unknown Senders feature in your iOS Messages settings, or check your device's junk and spam folders. Learn how to manage spam messages on your iPhone.
  7. Contact your mobile carrier to confirm your plan doesn't block premium SMS or short-code messages. You can also ask them to refresh your network connection or reset your SIM card settings.

Important: If an MFA delivery failure blocks you from running 7shifts Payroll or completing a payout, ask another account Admin to complete the action to avoid processing delays.

Request an MFA reset from 7shifts support

If the steps above don't resolve the issue, contact the 7shifts support team to request a manual MFA reset. Because resetting MFA can increase account security risks, you'll need to confirm that risk before 7shifts proceeds. You'll also need to provide the following to verify your identity:

  • A government-issued photo ID (such as a driver's license or passport) showing your full name, photo, and address.
  • A proof of address that matches your photo ID, such as a utility bill, bank statement, or 7shifts pay stub.
