Account Owner

We are excited to announce the rollout of a new user type in 7shifts: the Account Owner.

The Account Owner is a unique user type in 7shifts with enhanced administrative privileges. This user type is designed to give one designated user full control over Admin-level users on their account—allowing them to manage key admin settings independently, without needing to contact 7shifts Support.

Note: Each 7shifts account can have only one Account Owner at a time.


Rollout Schedule

This feature will be rolled out in phases. Please see the anticipated schedule below:

  • June 10: Available for new 7shifts accounts and accounts with only one active Admin user.
  • Week of June 16: Phased release to accounts with multiple Admin users.

What Can the Account Owner Do?

Account Owners have special permissions to manage Admin users, they can:

  • Promote Managers to Admin: Upgrade a Manager-level user to an Admin.
  • Demote Admins: Revoke Admin privileges, converting the user to a Manager or Employee.
  • Deactivate Admins: Remove an Admin’s access to the 7shifts platform.
  • Edit Admin Profiles: Update Admin user details, including salary information.

Important:

  • Account Owners cannot change Manager Permissions of other Admins.
  • Email addresses for Admin users can only be edited if the Admin hasn’t logged in yet. Once an Admin has accessed their account, their email address becomes locked and can only be changed by that user.

Key Details

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Single Designation: Only one Account Owner is allowed per account.
  • MFA Requirement: Account Owners must enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for security purposes.
  • Terms of Service: When an Account Owner is assigned, they must re-accept the 7shifts Terms of Service when logging in for the first time as the designated owner.
  • Cannot Be Deactivated Without Transfer: Before deactivating an Account Owner, ownership must first be transferred to another active Admin.
  • No Change to Admin Capabilities: Regular Admin users retain all their existing permissions. The Account Owner simply gains the ability to manage Admins.

How to Identify the Account Owner

In the 7shifts web app, navigate to Team > Employees. The Account Owner will be clearly labeled in the list of users.

How to Transfer Account Ownership

If your business needs to change the Account Owner, please contact 7shifts Support and provide the following documentation:

  1. Proof of Identification (e.g., driver’s license, passport)
  2. Proof of Address (e.g., utility bill, bank statement)
  3. Proof of Ownership (e.g., incorporation documents, official letterhead)
