Account Owner

The Account Owner is a unique user type in 7shifts with the highest level of administrative privileges and access. You can think of them as a "Super Admin" because they can manage all other Admin users. 

This role type is intended for the business owner, the person who originally signed up for 7shifts, or someone in a senior leadership position who is responsible for managing the account at the highest level. Unlike other Admin-level users, the Account Owner has full control over all admin users, allowing them to add, deactivate, promote or demote other Admins without needed to contact support. 

⚠️ Each 7shifts account can have only one Account Owner at a time.



Rollout Schedule

This feature is being released in phases. If you don't see an Account Owner assigned in your account yet, don't worry—we'll notify you once it's live in your account.

Here's our anticipated rollout schedule:

  • June 10: Now available for all new 7shifts accounts and accounts with only one active Admin user.
  • ~Week of June 16-September: Phased release for accounts with multiple Admin users.

What Can the Account Owner Do?

Account Owners have special permissions to manage Admin users, they can:

  • Promote Managers to Admin: Upgrade a Manager-level user to an Admin.
  • Demote Admins: Revoke Admin privileges, converting the user to a Manager or Employee.
  • Deactivate Admins: Remove an Admin’s access to the 7shifts platform.
  • Edit Admin Profiles: Update Admin user details, including salary information.

⚠️ If an Account Owner has been assigned to your 7shifts account, they are responsible for managing all Admin users. Any requests to add, remove, or update Admins should be directed to the Account Owner—7shifts Support is no longer able to make these changes for you.

⚠️ Important:

  • Account Owners cannot change Manager Permissions of other Admins.
  • Email addresses for Admin users can only be edited if the Admin hasn’t logged in yet. Once an Admin has accessed their account, their email address becomes locked and can only be changed by that user.

To access Permissions for a staff member:

  1. In the left navigation bar, head to Team.
  2. Select the Employee to open and edit their user profile.
  3. Within the Permissions tab, select a new User Type from the dropdown.
  4. A permission checklist will appear - check or uncheck the relevant boxes.
  5. Click Save to apply the changes:

Key Account Owner Details

  • Only one account owner is allowed per account.
  • When assigned, the Account Owner must re-accept the 7shifts Terms of Service on their next login.
  • An Account Owner cannot be deactivated unless ownership is first transferred to another active Admin.
  • Regular Admin users retain all their existing permissions. The Account Owner simply gains the ability to manage Admins.

How to Identify the Account Owner

The Account Owner is usually the person who initially set up your 7shifts account or a designated primary administrator. To find the Account Owner in your 7shifts account:

  1. Go to the 7shifts web app.
  2. Navigate to Team > Employees.
  3. Look for the user labeled as Account Owner in the list.

Tip: To narrow your search, use the filter to show only users with the Admin user type.

How to Transfer Account Ownership

Account Owners can transfer ownership to another active Admin directly in the 7shifts web app — no need to contact Support!
