7shifts Payroll: Benefits and Post-Tax Deductions

Post-tax deductions - refer to the portion of an Employee's earnings that are automatically subtracted after their income has been subjected to applicable tax (for example, union dues).

Benefits - refer to the various forms of compensation an Employee may receive beyond their regular pay. Certain employee benefits are mandated by law (for example, PTO) while others remain optional for employers. The mandatory benefits an employer must provide can differ based on the state in which they operate.

Admins can manage and create new benefits and post-tax deductions directly within an Employee's profile - allowing for easily customized deductions unique to each user!

⚠️ Deductions is only available for Employees who have completed payroll onboarding.

     
  1. Login is an Admin. 

  2. In the left navigation bar, head to Team > click on an Employee's name to expand their profile.

  3. Select Benefits and deductions:

  4. To add a new benefit type for this user, click + Add Benefit:

  5. Enter the benefit details and click Save to complete these changes :

    ⚠️ If the Period is set to None, then you will be able to set the Company and Employee Contribution Percentages.

    • Period. Addresses the conversion of monthly insurance premiums into the payroll frequency (monthly, weekly, biweekly, etc.).
    •  
    • Contribution Percentages.These are calculated based on Employee Earnings. The contribution percentage is applied to the Employee's earnings to determine the benefit amount.

  6. To view, update, or delete existing benefits,  click on the More options Screen Shot 2022-12-01 at 5.26.25 PM.png  icon :

  7. When an Employee ends their employment journey with your restaurant, we'll send the specified termination date (set within the Employee's user profile) to your benefit brokers to end benefit coverage. Click here to learn more!

    Deductions

  8. Click + Add Post Tax Deduction to add a new post-tax deduction:



  9. Enter the deduction details and click Save to complete these changes:

    There are four post-tax deduction Duration types:
       
    • One-time. You'll have the option to apply a one-time deduction during the next 10 pay dates.
    •  
    • Fixed recurring (Time Period). Choose a fixed dollar amount or a fixed percentage to be deducted per paycheck.
    •  
    • Fixed recurring (Total Dollar Amount). Set up a threshold, and we'll automatically deduct the fixed amount once the threshold has been reached.
    •  
    • Indefinitely recurring. A fixed dollar amount or percentage that will continue with each paycheck.
