Clair | On-Demand Tips for Admins

Clair On-Demand Tips allows your employees to access a portion of their earned tips daily through the 7shifts mobile app. This feature is designed to boost employee retention while requiring zero cash flow impact and zero administrative effort from your business.

Unlike traditional payout methods, On-Demand Tips does not require you to maintain a float or upfront funding. Clair manages all money movement, compliance, and repayments.

Things to Know

• Employees must receive their tips via payroll (7shifts Payroll is not required).
• Only available for U.S. employees (excluding CT, MA, MN, NM, NV, or SD).
• Requires the 7shifts Tip Management add-on and 7punches or a POS labor integration. 
• No upfront float or funding is required; Clair manages all money movement and compliance.
• Advances and repayments are managed directly by Clair: there are no credit checks, interest, or late fees, and failure of repayment will not impact an employee’s credit.
• This feature does not change your payroll process or reporting. Repayments are handled by Clair and withdrawn automatically from the employee’s bank account on payday.

How On-Demand Tips works

Employees access this feature directly within the 7shifts mobile app. If Clair On-Demand Pay and Tip Management are both enabled, and you have confirmed tips are paid via payroll, tip data is automatically shared with Clair 24 hours after a time punch has been clocked out.

• Employees see their available tips and earned wages combined in one available balance on the Clair dashboard.
• Clair funds the advance to the employee's linked bank account that receives direct deposit from your payroll.
• On payday, Clair automatically recovers the advanced amount from the employee's bank account.

Enabling Clair On-Demand Tips

The On-Demand Tips feature is available to employees within On-Demand Pay powered by Clair. 

Step 1: Confirm the Clair add-on is enabled.

If Clair is not already enabled for your account, you can enable by following these steps: 

1. Log in to the 7shifts web app as an Admin.
2. Navigate to Settings > Add-ons.
3. Find Clair On-Demand Pay. 
4. Click Enable Clair.

Note: Enabling this add-on gives employees access to both On-Demand Pay (earned wage access) and On-Demand Tip advances powered by Clair. 

Step 2: Confirm Tip Management add-on is enabled

1. Log in to the 7shifts web app as an Admin.
2. Navigate to Settings > Add-ons.
3. Find Tip Management. 
4. Click Enable Tip Management.

Step 3: Confirm you use Payroll to pay out your tips 

To use this feature, we just need a confirmation that your employees receive their tips via payroll. You don't need to be on 7shifts Payroll to use this, and there’s nothing you need to connect or set up. It’s just a simple confirmation letting us know how your tips are handled.

Note: If you’ve already confirmed this in the past, or if 7shifts has automatically verified this for you, you won't see this button and can skip to the next step.

1. Log in to the 7shifts web app as an Admin.
2. Navigate to Tip Management > On Demand Tips.
3. Click Yes, I pay tips on payroll.

Step 4: Confirm your Tip Calculation settings

The Tip Calculation formula determines the owed tips data that gets sent to Clair. Setting this up correctly will ensure employees have an accurate tip balance to advance from. 

1. Log in to the 7shifts web app as an Admin.
2. In the left navigation bar, go to Tip Management > Settings.
3. Select Set your tip calculation > Set up.
4. If you have multiple locations, choose a location from the dropdown menu and click Add.

Disabling Clair On-Demand Tips 

Important: Disabling the Clair add-on will immediately remove the On-Demand Pay section from all employee dashboards, cutting off their access to both tip and wage advances. 

If you still wish to opt out, follow the steps below:

1. Log in to the web app as an Admin.

2. In the left navigation bar, select Settings (or, hover over your profile photo) > Click Add-ons.

3. Click on the Clair On-Demand Pay add-on > Click Disable Clair 

Note: Disabling the Tip Management add-on means the employee's available funds would no longer include tips.

7shifts is here to help Admins with account-level setup, enabling the add-on, or questions regarding the transition from the legacy Tip Payouts.

Contact 7shifts Support for:

• Enabling or disabling the Clair add-on.
• Questions about the Tip Management add-on.

Direct Employees to Clair Support for:

• Questions surrounding setting up their profiles or linking their bank accounts (Plaid).

FAQ

Does this impact my payroll process?
No. Advances are a private transaction between Clair and the employee. You continue to run payroll as usual. Repayment is automatically withdrawn from the employee’s linked bank account on their next payday.

Does this service cost anything to the employee? 
Accessing tips is flexible. Standard transfers (1-3 business days) are completely free. If an employee needs their funds immediately, they can choose an Instant Transfer for a small fee of $4.99*.

Is this available in all states?
Clair is currently unavailable for employees who are residents of CT, MA, MN, NM, NV, and SD.
