How to use employee performance insights and logs

Using 7shifts performance logs allows you to easily manage your team’s performance in one place! With employee performance insights and performance log, you can increase information sharing, make informed decisions about performance-related actions, and ensure your employees get the support they need to succeed at work.

Important: Access to these features may require an upgrade from your current 7shifts plan. Managers require the "Can edit employees" and "Can manage Performance Log and view Performance Insights" permissions to add performance logs. 

Things to know


  • Employee performance insights and performance log is only available to view in the employee's profile on the 7shifts web app.
  • Only Admins and Managers with specific permissions can view Performance Logs.
  • Performance log notes cannot be deleted once they are published.
  • Log notes can only be added for the present day but remain visible for all past days.
  • Entries created in the Manager Log Book are visible to all Admins and Managers with location access.

How to view employee performance insights


Employee performance insights consolidate shift feedback and workplace data directly within an individual's user profile.

Important: An Admin must enable shift feedback in Location settings for data to appear in performance insights.

  1. Navigate to Team in the left navigation bar.
  2. Select the name of an employee to open their user profile.
  3. Select Performance from the left-hand menu.
  4. Use the filters to narrow results by Location or date range.

  5. Click View shift feedback to reveal all submitted feedback.

How to add a performance log note


Performance logs help managers maintain a history of accomplishments and areas for improvement to save time during performance reviews.

  1. Head to the Team section and click on an employee's name.
  2. Select Performance from the profile menu.
  3. Enter your feedback in the Performance Log text box.
  4. Click the paperclip icon to attach a file (PDF, PNG, JPEG, DOCS, or XLSX). The maximum size for each file is 2MB and only one file can be attached per performance log note. 
  5. Click Add note to publish the entry to the performance history.
  6. To review all performance log notes, head to the History section. Each note will include the user who added the note and a timestamp of when the note was created:

Using performance logs in the Manager Log Book


When you add a performance entry in the Manager Log Book, it automatically syncs to the employee's user profile and becomes visible in the Log Book at every location where that employee is currently assigned. This keeps your records centralized and ensures every manager stays in the loop!

Important: Syncing is one-way only. Notes added directly to a user profile will not appear in the Manager Log Book.

Web Mobile
  1. Navigate to Log Book in the left navigation bar.
  2. Locate the Employee Performance Log category.
  3. Select an employee from the dropdown menu.
  4. Enter your feedback and click Submit.

To edit the Employee Performance Log category:

  1. Log in as an Admin. 
  2. Head to Log Book > Categories > select the pencil icon Screen Shot 2022-10-28 at 9.54.21 PM.pngnext Employee Performance Log > enter a new Name > click Save.

To delete Employee Performance Log category

  1. Log in as an Admin. 
  2. Head to Log Book > Categories > select the delete icon next Employee Performance Log.
