Retiring Tip Payouts: Alternative Options

The legacy 7shifts Tip Payouts feature was officially retired on June 30, 2026.

Please note that your Tip Pools and all other settings within Tips are completely unaffected by this change. We remain committed to helping you simplify tip calculations across your team. For those looking for a path forward, please review this article for information on alternate tip distribution methods.

⚠️ Important: This guide is specifically for customers located in states where On-Demand Tips via Clair is currently unavailable (CT, MA, MN, NM, NV, and SD).

Things to Know


Note: The Tip Payouts page remains accessible strictly for your historical compliance and record-keeping needs.

  • Any float balances that were remaining after the June 30 retirement date will be automatically returned to your linked bank account. Please allow 7–10 business days for the funds to process.
  • Tip Pooling and Tips settings are not affected by this change. 7shifts will continue to calculate tips as it does today.

Receiving remaining float refunds


If you had any remaining outstanding float funds left in your account after the June 30, 2026 retirement date, 7shifts automatically returns the balances to your original linked bank account. You don't need to take any manual action to start this return process.

Please allow 7–10 business days for the refunded float funds to completely process and appear in your bank account. If you don't see the funds after 10 business days, please contact our 7shifts support team for assistance. 

View and download historical Tip Payout reporting 


To ensure you have access to your historical Tip Payout data, the Tip Payouts page remains active in your account so you can review your Payout Logs and Transaction History

  1. In the left navigation bar, head to Tips > Tip Payouts.
  2. Select the desired Location from the drop-down. 
  3. Select the Payout Log or Transaction History tab. 
  4. Use the filters to input the desired date range, user, and status. 

 You can also export your Tip Payout history via the Tip Payouts report. 

  1. In the left navigation bar, head to Reports > Tip Payouts.
  2. Input the desired date range for the Tip Payout report. 
  3. Select 'Export to CSV'.

Automated Tip Distribution Alternatives 


For customers looking for an automated tip distribution path but who are located in a state where On-Demand Tips via Clair is currently unavailable (CT, MA, MN, NM, NV, and SD), we recommend exploring third-party tip distribution platforms such as TipHaus.

TipHaus integrates with 7shifts to sync employee, shift, and job code data. However, because this is an external partner solution, transitioning your payouts workflow will require a few migration steps:

  • Rebuild Tip Pools (If applicable): If your previous Tip Payouts were based on pooled amounts, you will need to manually recreate and configure your tip pooling rules directly within the TipHaus platform.
  • Connect Your POS: Link your POS system directly to TipHaus to sync credit card tip data.
  • Payroll Reporting: TipHaus will handle your tip distributions moving forward. To ensure these payouts are reflected in your taxes and payroll, you will need to either link TipHaus directly to a supported payroll provider or manually input your TipHaus payout totals into your payroll system at the end of each pay period.
