Duplicate or overlapping punches in Time Clocking

Issue

You may notice duplicate or overlapping punches in your 7shifts Time Clocking data. This typically happens if the Actual Labor setting is enabled in your POS integration while employees are also using 7punches to clock in.


Cause

When the Actual Labor setting is enabled, 7shifts pulls punch data directly from your POS. If employees also record their time using 7punches, 7shifts creates two separate punch records for the same shift.


What to do

Step 1: Check your integration settings

To stop future duplicates, an Admin must disable labor syncing from your POS if your employees use 7punches:

  1. In the left navigation bar, select Settings.
  2. Select Apps & Integrations.
  3. Select My Integrations and click on your active POS.
  4. Toggle the Actual Labor setting off to disable it.
  5. Select Save.

Step 2: Clean up existing duplicates

An Admin or Manager with permissions must manually remove the extra punches from past pay periods to ensure data is accurate:

  1. In the left navigation bar, select Time Clocking.
  2. Reopen the affected pay period.
  3. Identify the overlapping punches. You should typically delete the punch synced from your POS and keep the 7punches record.
  4. Select the Delete icon next to the duplicate punch.
  5. Close the pay period once your audit is complete.
