Exceptions Costs in Labor Calculations & Reports
For users in California, New York, Philadelphia, and the District of Columbia, 7shifts now allows exception costs (such as compliance fees) to be added directly to labor costs and reports.
⚠️The 'Can manage exceptions' permission applies to specific labor exceptions: Reporting Pay, Missed Rest Breaks, and Missed Meal Breaks.
Overtime, Split Shift/Spread of Hours, Clopening, and Last-Minute Schedule Changes, are not dismissible and appear as flags on punch details.
Follow these steps to enable and manage compliance fees/costs:
- Log into the web app as an Admin.

In the left navigation bar, head to Settings > Company Settings > Labor & Compliance.
- Checkmark Compliance fees:
- Be sure to hit Save to complete these changes!

(optional for Accounts in California) For meal breaks to automatically dismiss, you will need to enable Automatically dismiss waived meal breaks, Attestation and one meal break waiver.
How to enable Automatically Dismiss Missed Meal Breaks:From Company Settings
- In the left navigation bar, select Settings > Company Settings> select Labor & Compliance.
- Under the section Advanced Labor > enable Attestation.

Checkmark Automatically dismiss missed meal breaks:
- Click Save to complete these changes
From an Employee Profile- In the left navigation bar, select Team > Employees > search for an Employee and click on their name to expand it. Once on the Employee profile, select Employment on the left-hand menu.
- Checkmark the waiver(s) on file that will apply to the Employee:
- Click Save to complete these changes
How to revert Auto-dismissed Meal Breaks:
From the Time Clocking page
- In the left navigation bar, click on the Time Clocking tab and select a pay period. Once the pay period has expanded, click on the pencil icon
next to the punch you would like to edit.
- In the Punch Overview, click on Auto-dismissed meal break:
- Click Revert auto-dismissed meal break to accept the warning:
- Click Save to complete these changes
- In the left navigation bar, select Settings > Company Settings> select Labor & Compliance.
Once enabled, exception costs will populate in multiple areas:
1. The Worked Hours & Wages report, found under Reports > Worked Hours & Wages.
You will see an added column in your Worked Hours & Wages report.

2. The Labor Exceptions report, found under Reports > Labor Exceptions. Shift lengths are shown for exceptions related to shift duration, while exceptions not based on shift length will display N/A hours.
3. Actual Labor will appear on the Sales vs. Labor dashboard and Actuals report.
NOTE: Labor exception costs are not surfaced to employees.
