Blocked Days
Blocked Days let you close specific dates to time-off requests across your whole team or for a particular role. This is useful for a Saturday dinner rush, a holiday weekend, or any stretch where you need full floor coverage. Employees can't submit requests on blocked dates, and the system notifies them immediately if they try.
Things To Know
Important: Managers and Assistant Managers require the "Can edit and delete approved time off requests" permission to manage blocked days.
- Blocked days do not affect time off requests that were submitted before the day was blocked.
- You must manually approve or decline any pending requests that overlap with a newly blocked day.
- Blocked days do not apply to Sick Paid Time Off (SPTO) requests.
- If an employee's requested date range overlaps with even one blocked day, 7shifts prevents the entire request.

How Blocked Days Appear to Employees
Employees cannot submit time off requests for dates that have been blocked by a Manager or Admin. If an employee attempts to request time off on a blocked date, 7shifts prevents the request from being submitted and displays a notification.
-
Single Day Requests: If an employee selects a single date that is blocked, the employee is notified immediately that the day is unavailable for time off.
-
Date Range Requests: If any part of a requested date range overlaps with a blocked day, 7shifts prevents the submission. For example, if March 18–20 is blocked and an employee requests March 17–20, the system prevents the submission.
Next Steps
After blocking days, ensure you review any existing pending requests for those dates, as the block only prevents new submissions.
