Blocked Days
In 7shifts, you can manage time off requests by blocking specific days to prevent employees from submitting requests for those dates, ensuring you have the staff coverage you need.
Things To Know
Important: Managers and Assistant Managers require the "Can edit and delete approved time off requests" permission to manage blocked days.
- Blocked days do not affect time off requests that were submitted before the day was blocked.
- You must manually approve or decline any pending requests that overlap with a newly blocked day.
- Blocked days do not apply to Sick Paid Time Off (SPTO) requests.
Add a Blocked Day
- In the left-navigation bar, go to Schedule > Time Off.
- Select the Blocked Days tab.
-
Click the + Add blocked day button.
-
Select whether to block a single day or a range of consecutive dates.
- Enter the specific date or date range details.
- Select a Location to block the day for all employees at that site.
- Select specific Roles if you only want to block the day for a certain group of employees.
- Click Save.
From there, all future Time Off requests for that day or date range will be Blocked.
How blocked days appear to employees
Employees cannot submit time off requests for dates that have been blocked by a Manager or Admin. If an employee attempts to request time off on a blocked date, 7shifts will prevent the request from being submitted and display a notification.
-
Single Day Requests: If an employee selects a single date that is blocked, they will be notified immediately that the day is unavailable for time off.
-
Date Range Requests: If any part of a requested date range overlaps with a blocked day, the entire request is blocked. For example, if March 18–20 is blocked and an employee requests March 17–20, the system will prevent the submission because of the overlapping blocked dates.
