Tip Pool Adjustments Affecting Past Pay Periods

Issue

You updated your tip pool percentage, and it incorrectly applied to a previous open pay period, causing discrepancies in tip distribution.

What To Do

When you edit a tip pool setup in 7shifts, it will affect all open pay periods. To ensure your tip pool changes only apply to future pay periods, you need to close the affected past pay periods before making the new adjustment.

Here's how to correct the tip pool for a past pay period and then apply new changes for future periods:

⚠️ Only Admins or Managers with 'Can create and edit tip pools' permission can edit tip pool settings.

Prerequisites: You need to have Admin permissions to perform these actions.

  1. Revert your tip pool to its original settings for the affected pay period.
  2. (if using Tip Payouts) Complete your tip payouts as needed for the affected pay period.
  3. Close the affected pay period in two places:
    • In the left navigation bar, select Time Clocking, then select Pay Periods. Close the relevant pay period.
    • In the left navigation bar, select Tip Management, then select Overview. Lock the data for the relevant pay period.
  4. Edit your tip pool to the new amounts you want to take effect. Since all your previous pay periods are now closed, this change will only affect the pay period starting from today (or the next open pay period).
