Will I Be Charged Wyoming Workers' Compensation Tax if My Rate Is Still "Applied For"

Question

Will I be taxed for Wyoming Workers' Compensation (WC) on payroll when my rate is still in "applied for" status?

Answer

Yes. Unlike State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) which uses a single employer-wide rate, Wyoming Workers' Compensation assigns rates at the individual employee level. These rates are based on the employee’s specific NAICS (North American Industry Classification System) code and the corresponding WC rate.

When your WC status is marked as "Applied For," the system uses a standard default rate defined by the state to calculate the employer contributions for each employee. These contributions will appear on payroll and are required unless the employee is exempt.

If you're unsure about the default rate being applied or have questions about your WC registration, contact Wyoming Department of Workforce Services (DWS) for guidance on Workers' Compensation setup and rate determination.
