How to Update Tax Rate in 7shifts

If you've received a notice indicating a change in your tax rate or filing frequency, you can easily update this information directly in your 7shifts account.


⚠️ This article is for companies using 7shifts Payroll. If you use another payroll provider, please contact them directly regarding your tax notice.

⚠️ Employers are responsible for reviewing tax notices and updating any changes to tax rates or filing frequencies directly in their account.

⚠️ Effective dates cannot be modified on existing settings. You can only add settings with new values and effective dates, or modify the values of existing settings.

To update Your Tax Rate or Filing Frequency:

  1. Login to the 7shifts web app as an Admin.
  2. Navigate to Payroll from the main menu.
  3. Click Business Settings > Update tax setup:

  4. Find the state you need to update.
  5. Select View all to see all existing values and edit effective dates for that tax:

  6. Click + Input additional value to add a new tax rate entry with its own effective date. 

    Existing tax rates and dates remain unchanged.
  7. Enter the new rate or filing frequency as indicated in your tax notice.
  8. Click Save/Next > Continue to apply the changes.
  • Always make updates promptly on the effective date indicated in the notice.
  • Keep a copy of the notice for your records in case of any future discrepancies.
