Why did my employee's child support deduction stop appearing on their paycheck?
If a child support deduction didn't appear on an employee's recent paychecks, there are a few possible causes. One thing to check is whether those pay periods were processed as off-cycle payroll runs. If an off-cycle run was created with the Apply Benefit option set to No, 7shifts Payroll skips benefit deductions - including child support garnishments - for that pay period. The garnishment itself stays active on the employee's profile and will apply again on the next payroll run where Apply Benefit is selected:
If you're not sure why the deduction stopped, contact the 7shifts support team. A permanently removed deduction requires a formal request - it won't stop on its own.
Prevent missed deductions on future off-cycle runs
Each time you create an off-cycle payroll run in 7shifts Payroll, you'll be asked whether to apply benefits. To make sure child support deductions - and any other active garnishments or benefit deductions - are included, select Yes when prompted to apply benefits during off-cycle payroll setup.
Request permanent removal of a child support deduction
If a child support order has been fully satisfied or officially discontinued, the deduction won't stop automatically. You'll need to contact the 7shifts support team to have it permanently removed. Our team will handle the removal on the backend and confirm once it's done.
Tip: If you have documentation confirming the child support order has ended - such as a court order or income withholding termination notice - have it ready when you contact support. This helps our team process the removal as quickly as possible.
