Fix a payroll run that's missing holiday pay

If your employees were already paid but holiday pay (such as time-and-a-half) is missing from your payroll data, it's likely because the holiday wasn't enabled for your location before the payroll run. Even if you turn the holiday setting on retroactively and your 7shifts timesheets update, your historical payroll run in 7shifts Payroll stays unchanged and needs a manual correction.

Follow these steps to correct your historical payroll data and make sure employee taxes and earnings are accurate.

1. Create an Off-Cycle Payroll and sync the timesheets from the affected pay period into it.

2. Select the paper checks method. Set the payment method for this off-cycle run to Paper Checks.

   Important: Don't actually print or distribute these checks to your employees. Selecting Paper Checks simply forces 7shifts Payroll to calculate the correct taxes and update year-to-date details.

3. Submit the off-cycle run. Submit the paper check payroll to trigger the correct tax calculations.
4. Download both payroll journals. Export the payroll journals for both your original incorrect run and this new corrected run.
5. Compare the journals. Compare the two journals side-by-side. The difference between the net pay amounts for each employee shows you the exact back pay you owe them.
6. Void the original run. Initiate a void for the original, incorrect payroll run as soon as possible. Voiding quickly gives you the best chance of automatically recovering tax remittances.
7. Issue employee reimbursements. Pay your employees the calculated difference. You can add this owed amount to the Reimbursement field on a new additional off-cycle run, or include it directly on your next regular payroll. See How to record a payment without tax deductions for details.
