7shifts Payroll Employee Withholdings & Exemptions report

7shifts Payroll admins can download a report of federal and state tax withholding settings and exemption elections for all employees directly from 7shifts. This report is useful for verifying that taxes are being withheld correctly for each employee on your team.

Things to Know


Note: This report is only available to Admin users in accounts that use 7shifts Payroll. It can only be accessed through the 7shifts web app.

  • The report pulls data from our payroll partner Check Technologies and reflects current W-4 elections on file.
  • Column headers vary by company. The jurisdictions active for your Business Entity determine which tax columns appear.
  • 1099 contractors are not included. Only W-2 employees with W-4 forms on file will appear in the report.
  • The report covers all W-2 employees, including salaried managers.

What the report includes


The Employee Withholdings & Exemptions report contains one row per employee and captures two categories of data.

  • Tax exemption elections show which taxes each employee is exempt from. For example, J-1 visa holders may be exempt from FICA.
  • W-4 withholding parameters show the federal and state inputs employees submitted on their W-4, including filing status, allowances, dependents' amount, and any additional withholding elections.

Where withholding data comes from


The report shows the current elections that are on file with our Payroll partner, Check Technologies, for each employee. That data can get there in four ways:

  • Migrated from a previous payroll provider during onboarding (if data was available).
  • Submitted by the employee during onboarding.
  • Updated by the employee through their profile.
  • Entered by an Admin through the Payroll employees area.

How to download the report


From the Payroll page: 

  1. Log in to 7shifts as an Admin.
  2. In the left navigation bar, select Payroll > Reports tab.
  3. Select Employee Withholdings & Exemptions.
  4. Click Download report.

From the Reports page: 

  1. Log in to 7shifts as an Admin.
  2. In the left navigation bar, select Reports > Payroll reports.
  3. Use the dropdown menu to select Report type > Employee Withholdings & Exemptions.
  4. Use the dropdown menu to select the Business entity (if more than one).
  5. Click Download report.
