Why am I seeing the error "This password has been found in a data breach" ?
When creating a 7shifts account or updating a password, 7shifts blocks credentials that appear in public compromised registries to protect account security.
Issue
The error message "This password has been found in a data breach. Please choose a different password" displays at the bottom of the screen when a user attempts to create an account or update password settings in 7shifts.
Cause
Note: This error message does not mean 7shifts experienced a data breach or that the 7shifts account has been hacked.
To protect user identity, 7shifts automatically checks login credentials against global registries of known compromised credentials from historical leaks on other websites.
This warning triggers because the exact combination of your email address and this specific password was detected in a past external online data breach.
Because cybercriminals often try reused email and password combinations to break into various platforms, continuing to use this password makes your 7shifts account vulnerable to unauthorized access.
What To Do
Select a new, unique password that is not used on any other website or service to clear the error and secure the 7shifts account.
Follow these security guidelines when creating a password:
- Minimum 8 characters
- 1 uppercase letter
- 1 lowercase letter
- 1 number
- No 3 characters repeating (aaa, 111)
- No sequences (abc, 123)
- No personal info (name, email)
Tip: Create a unique phrase or a random combination of letters, numbers, and symbols. Consider using a trusted password manager to securely generate and store your complex passwords.
Issue Unresolved
