The Log Book is a shared shift journal. Every manager records what happened during their shift so the next manager walks in informed, not guessing.

Things to know
- Log Book categories are configured by your Admin. Default categories include Shift Notes, Customer Complaints, and Maintenance. Your account may have different or additional categories set up.
- Log Book entries are visible to all managers and admins at your location. Write entries as if the reader has no prior context for the shift.
- The Log Book is available on both the web app and the mobile app.
Write a Log Book entry
- In the left navigation bar, click Log Book.
- Click New Entry.
- Select the category that fits the entry: Shift Notes for general shift observations, Maintenance for equipment issues, Customer Complaints for service incidents, or Daily Sales for revenue notes. Use whatever categories your Admin has configured.
- Write the entry with enough detail that a manager arriving for the next shift with no prior context can act on it. Include what happened, what was done about it, and whether anything is still unresolved.
- Click Save.
Review entries from a previous shift
- In the left navigation bar, click Log Book.
- Use the date filter to navigate to the shift or date range you want to review.
- Filter by category if you're looking for a specific type of entry, such as maintenance issues or customer incidents.
- Read through entries from the previous shift before your service starts, particularly any flagged as unresolved.
Get the day's entries delivered to your inbox
7shifts can send a daily email summary of Log Book entries to all managers and admins assigned to a location. Set it up once and the day's entries arrive in your inbox automatically, so you can review the shift before you walk in.
- In the left navigation bar, click Log Book.
- Click the Auto-send Daily button.
- Choose Auto-send Daily and set a delivery time, or select Manually Send Email to send on demand.
- Click Save.
- In the app, navigate to Log Book.
- Tap the Auto-send Daily/Send email summary at the top right of the screen to send the day's summary manually.
Note: The daily summary will not send if no entries have been recorded for the day, or if any required Log Book categories have been left blank. To receive the summary, each manager also needs Manager Log Book notifications enabled in their personal account settings under Settings > My Account > Notifications. If you're not receiving emails, check your spam folder and confirm that notifications@7shifts.com is whitelisted.
