Clair | On-Demand Tips for Employees

Don’t wait for your next paycheck to access your hard-earned tips. With on-demand tip payouts offered through Clair On-Demand Pay, you can get early access to a portion of your earned tips directly through the 7shifts mobile app. There’s no interest, no credit checks, and no required fees.

This feature is built to give you financial flexibility. Simply access the Clair dashboard in your 7shifts app, choose how much you want to advance from your combined wages and tips, and get paid! All advances are automatically repaid on your next payday.

Things to Know

⚠️ Important: Your employer must have the Tip Management add-on enabled and have opted into the Clair On-Demand Pay feature before you can access this service.

  • You must be 18 years or older and reside in the U.S. (excluding CT, MA, MN, NM, NV, or SD).
  • Your bank account must consistently receive direct deposits for your payroll.
  • Tips are typically available for advancement 24 hours after your shift ends. This is the time required for your clocked-out time punch and tip data to be processed by 7shifts and sent to Clair.
  • Repayment is handled automatically by Clair from your linked bank account on your scheduled payday.
  • Combined Balance: Your available advance includes both your earned wages (EWA) and your earned tips. You can see the breakdown of these amounts within the Clair dashboard.
  • The multi-factor authentication (MFA) for Clair (Get paid early) is separate from your 7shifts login; therefore, updating your phone number in 7shifts does not change it for your Clair profile. If you cannot access your Clair dashboard to update these details, contact Clair support directly at support@getclair.com.

What is On-Demand Tips?


On-demand tip payouts are available through On-Demand Pay,  a financial benefit that lets you access a portion of the wages and tips you've earned after a shift, rather than waiting for your weekly or bi-weekly paycheck. This service is powered by Clair and their partner bank, Pathward®, N.A and is integrated directly into your 7shifts app.

On-Demand Tips is available through your employer and can be accessed from your 7shifts mobile app dashboard. 

Eligibility for On-Demand Tips is determined by several factors. Some of the requirements for your eligibility include:

  • You are currently employed by an employer who is eligible for Clair On-Demand Pay. 
  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You have a valid social security number, are employed in the US, and reside in a state where Clair operates.
  • Your bank account consistently receives direct deposit for your payroll.

How to sign up & access tips


  1. Open the 7shifts mobile app and scroll to the bottom of your Dashboard to find the Clair On-Demand Pay button.
  2. If you are new to Clair, follow the onboarding steps to verify your identity (SSN required) and link your bank account via Plaid.
  3. Once set up, you will see your Available Balance grow when your shift tips are finalized by your manager. This total includes a percentage of your earned wages and tips.
  4. Select the amount you wish to advance and choose your transfer type (Standard or Instant*).

⚠️ If the Clair On-Demand Pay option is not available, it has not been enabled in your company's 7shifts account. To get started, the account Admin can contact our Support team.

*Instant Transfers typically occur in seconds, but may take up to 30 minutes. If you choose to have your Advance disbursed to your bank account instantly, you will be charged a $4.99 fee. This instant transfer fee will be taken out of your Advance at the time of disbursement.

How much of my tips can I advance?


The easiest way to see how much you can advance right now is to visit your On-Demand Pay dashboard. The specific amount is calculated based on the tip data sent from 7shifts to Clair after your shifts are completed. Your combined limit (Wages + Tips) may increase over time as you successfully repay advances.

You can advance a maximum of $100 at a time. To start, you will be able to advance up to $200 between paydays, but as you consistently repay advances across multiple pay cycles, you may see that limit increase up to $800.

Are there any fees?


There are no required fees. Standard ACH transfers (1-3 business days) are completely free. If you need your tips immediately, you can choose an Instant Transfer for a $4.99 fee, which is deducted from your advance at the time of disbursement.*

How does repayment work?


Typically, all advances you take within a given pay period are repaid automatically from your linked bank account when you receive your next paycheck.

The amount you pay is always the amount you borrowed, with no interest or fees added. 

If your paycheck is delayed, you can go into the Clair experience and make a manual repayment to bring your balance to $0, allowing you to use On-Demand Pay again.

Does this notify my employer? 


No, your employer is not notified. Although your employer is aware of this benefit, they are not directly notified when any employees take or repay an earned wage advance, and it has no impact or change to your employer's payroll process.
