Why can't I approve I-9?

Issue

The Approve button is greyed out and cannot be clicked when an Admin or Manager attempts to finalize an employee's I-9 form in 7shifts.


Cause

This issue occurs when one or more required fields in the I-9 form are empty. The 7shifts account prevents the approval process until all non-optional data is entered to ensure compliance.


What to do

To enable the Approve button, you must identify and complete all missing information on the form.

  1. Log in to 7shifts as an Admin or a Manager with onboarding permissions.
  2. Navigate to the specific employee profile and open the I-9 form.
  3. Review the entire document for any fields that are not labeled "optional."
  4. Enter the required information in any empty fields.
  5. Verify the employee's first day of employment (mm/dd/yyyy) field is completed, as this is a frequently missed requirement.
  6. Select Approve once the button becomes active to finalize the document.
