Understanding Semi-monthly Pay Dates and Submission Deadlines
In 7shifts Payroll, your submission deadlines and pay dates are calculated based on banking days. Because financial institutions do not process payments on weekends or federal holidays, your deadlines may vary each period to ensure employees are paid on time.
Things to know
- 7shifts Payroll does not charge fees for submitting after a suggested deadline.
- The system suggests deadlines based on your specific processing timeline.
- The "Submit by" date is a suggestion to help you hit a target pay date, not a hard cutoff that prevents payment.
How deadlines are calculated
For customers on a semi-monthly pay schedule, 7shifts Payroll calculates deadlines based on banking days. If a target pay date falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the system moves the actual payday to the preceding Friday. When the payday moves earlier, the submission deadline must also move forward to accommodate the 2-day or 3-day processing window.
Common scenarios include:
- Scenario A: "My pay period ends on the 31st, but 7shifts says I have to submit on the 30th. How can I submit before the period is over?"
- Scenario B: "I want my paydays to always be the 17th and the 3rd. Why does my submission date and payroll date change every month?"
What to do
If your suggested deadline falls before your pay period has officially concluded, follow these steps to ensure accuracy.
- Wait for the period to end and do not attempt to submit payroll while the pay period is still active. 7shifts Payroll will not allow you to finalize a run until all shifts are recorded and the period is closed.
- Submit on the next business day. Once the pay period is over, log in and submit your payroll.
- After submission, the system will automatically calculate the earliest possible check date based on your banking timeline.
Note: If you prefer a consistent submission day (such as always two days after the period ends), contact 7shifts Support to adjust your schedule settings. Please note that this will result in fluctuating pay dates.
