How to update your W-4 form

Employees use the W-4 tax form to provide details such as filing status, number of dependents, and additional withholding preferences to 7shifts Payroll. It is important to update Federal (W-4) and state withholding forms each year or after major life events to ensure the correct amount of tax is withheld from your paychecks.

Things to know

Important: Submitting a W-4 in 7shifts is only available for accounts using 7shifts Payroll.

  • If your employer uses a different payroll provider, contact your employer directly for instructions on how to update tax forms.
  • 7shifts does not automatically re-apply W-4 exemption statuses for employees. If you claimed "exempt" from federal and state withholding tax for the previous tax year, that exemption expires when a new tax year begins. To maintain exempt status, you must update your W-4 form before February of the current tax year.
