How to Submit an Updated W-4 Form in 7shifts

A W-4 is a U.S. tax form that informs employers how much federal income tax to withhold from an employee's paycheck. Employees use it to provide details such as their filing status, number of dependents, and any additional withholding preferences. It's important to update your Federal (W-4) and state withholding forms each year, especially after major life events like marriage, having children, or income changes. Doing so helps ensure the correct amount of tax is withheld from your paychecks.

This article overviews how to submit an updated W-4 form through the 7shifts web app.

⚠️ Note: The option to submit your W-4 in 7shifts is available only for accounts using 7shifts Payroll. If your employer uses a different payroll provider, please contact them for instructions on how to update your W-4.
⚠️ Important: 7shifts does not automatically re-apply W-4 exemption statuses for employees. To maintain or update your exempt status for the new tax year, make sure to submit your 2025 W-4 form before February 15, 2025.
