Employee Tip Breakdown

The Employee Tip Breakdown allows Admins and Managers to quickly access an individual employee's detailed tip information in 7shifts. This report is essential for answering employee questions about their tips and providing clear insight into how their total tip amounts are calculated.


⚠️ Important Notes & Prerequisites:  

  • The Tip Management add-on must be enabled in your account to access this feature.
  • Your Tip Overview setup must be complete. Click here for details.
  • All Managers/Assistant Managers have access to the Tip Overview if the add-on is enabled.
  • Certain features displayed below may require an upgrade from your existing plan.

Accessing the Employee Tip Breakdown

To access an individual employee's tip details: 

  1. Login to the 7shifts web app as an Admin, Manager or Assistant Manager.
  2. In the left navigation bar, head to Tip Management > Overview.
  3. On the Tip Overview dashboard, click anywhere on the row displaying an Employee's tip information.

Understanding the Tip Breakdown

The breakdown provides a summary of the employee's tips for the current pay period.

Pay Period Summary

This section summarizes the key totals for the selected pay period:

  • Outstanding Tips: Tips that were owed to the employee from previous pay periods and carried forward.
  • Earned Tips: The total amount of tips earned by the employee during this pay period (before any payments).
  • Paid Tips: The total amount of tips already paid to the employee this pay period. Below, you can see a breakdown of the payment source(s) for paid tips (e.g., Paid in Cash, External Payroll, or 7shifts Tip Payouts).
  • Owed Tips: The current outstanding total of tips owed to the employee for this pay period.
    • Calculation: Owed Tips = Outstanding Tips + Earned Tips - Paid Tips

Shift Details

You can drill into the specifics of a single shift by clicking the arrow next to that shift entry. This reveals a detailed breakdown for that specific workday:

  • Tips Collected: Auto gratuities and credit card tips synced directly from your integrated POS system.
  • Tip received from pool: The total tips distributed to the employee from your configured 7shifts tip pools.
  • Tips earned: The total tips the employee earned on that specific shift.
