Does 7shifts Payroll support a Notice to Withhold for Health Care Coverage?
No. 7shifts Payroll can't process a Notice to Withhold for Health Care Coverage, because our payroll processing partner only supports child support garnishments and this notice isn't a garnishment. You can still withhold the health insurance premium by adding a manual deduction to the employee's profile in 7shifts Payroll and sending the payment yourself.
A Notice to Withhold for Health Care Coverage is Part A of a National Medical Support Notice (NMSN). A child support agency issues it, but it doesn't send wages to the agency.
Compare a health care coverage notice with an Income Withholding for Support order
Both notices come from a child support agency, but they send money to different places. Here's how they differ:
- Income Withholding for Support order: Sends withheld wages to a state disbursement unit. 7shifts Payroll remits these child support payments on your behalf.
- Notice to Withhold for Health Care Coverage: Tells you to enroll the employee's child in your group health plan and withhold the employee's share of the health insurance premium. The withheld premium goes to the health plan or insurance carrier, not to a support agency.
Because a Notice to Withhold for Health Care Coverage has no agency payment to remit, it falls outside what our payroll processing partner handles. The 7shifts Payroll managed remittance covers child support orders only.
Withhold the health insurance premium with a manual deduction
You can add the health insurance premium to the employee's profile in 7shifts Payroll as a manual benefit deduction. 7shifts then withholds the amount from each paycheck.
Important: When you add a manual health insurance deduction in 7shifts Payroll, 7shifts withholds the amount from the employee's paychecks but doesn't send the payment. You're responsible for sending it to the health plan or insurance carrier.
