How to track Employee Training progress

As an Admin or Manager, you have two ways to monitor Course progress in 7shifts: a Course-level report that shows how all assigned employees are doing, and an individual employee profile view that shows every Course assigned to that person.

To see everything currently waiting on your review, rather than overall progress, check the Needs review tab under Training > Courses instead.

7shifts Employee Training is now available on the Premium plan! Admins and Managers can still create Lessons and Courses, but publishing, assigning, and other key actions require a Premium plan. You'll be prompted to upgrade when you hit one of these actions. Employees will no longer have access to Training on web or mobile until the account upgrades. All content and progress data is preserved, and once you're on Premium, you and your team can pick up right where you left off.

Things to Know

Important: Managers and Assistant Managers require the permission "Can manage training" to create and manage content and "Can view training" to view Courses and access training reporting.

  • Managers and Assistant Managers can only access Tracking & Reports for the Locations assigned in their Employee profile.
  • Avg. quiz score only appears when a Course includes graded quizzes. Courses without graded quizzes will show no score.

Track progress by Course

The Tracking and Reports tab inside a Course shows completion rates, quiz scores, and individual employee status in one place.

  1. From the web app, navigate to Training > Courses.
  2. Click on the Course you want to review.
  3. Select the Tracking and Reports tab.

At the top of the page, you'll see three summary cards:

  • Completed — the percentage and count of assigned employees who've finished the Course.
  • In progress — the number of employees currently working through the Course, plus how many haven't started yet.
  • Avg. quiz score — the average score across all graded quizzes in the Course.

Below the summary, a table lists each assigned employee with their progress, due date, score, and status. You can filter the table by location, department, role, name, or status.

  • Progress column — shows the employee's current step and how many steps they've finished, such as Step 2/4.
  • Score column — shows their Course score on graded Courses.
  • Status column — shows one of four values:
    • Completed
    • Failed
    • In Progress
    • Not Started

Note: The Progress column reflects completed Lessons and Tasks. Use the Score column for quiz results, or click an employee’s name to see lesson completion and signed acknowledgements.

Track progress by Employee

To see all Courses assigned to an individual and their progress across each, view their Employee profile.

  1. From the web app, navigate to Team > View Employees.
  2. Select the employee's name.
  3. In the employee's profile, select the Training tab.

The Training section shows three summary cards:

  • Courses assigned — the number of Courses assigned to this employee and how many they've completed.
  • Avg. quiz score — their average score across all graded quizzes in assigned Courses.
  • Since last activity — how much time has passed since they last engaged with a Course.

Below the summary, the Assigned courses table lists each Course with its status, quiz type, score, and number of lessons completed. Click any Course name to open the full Course sequence, where you can view lesson and quiz completion and any acknowledgements they've signed.

You can reach that same detailed view from the Course itself. In Training > Courses > Tracking and Reports, click the employee's name in the table.

Click a Course name in the employee’s Assigned courses table to open their Course sequence. The Course sequence page shows how the employee is doing on that one Course.

At the top of the Course sequence view, you'll see four summary cards:

  • Course score — shows the employee’s average score across graded quizzes. If the Course has a passing grade set in Course settings, the card also shows whether the employee passed or failed, and how many attempts they have left.
  • Lessons done — shows how many Lessons within the Course the employee has finished.
  • Graded quizzes — shows how many graded quizzes the employee has completed.
  • Completed — shows the date the employee finished the Course. If the Course repeats, this card also shows when the Course renews, such as "Renews in 365 days."
