How to fix tips exporting as incorrect earnings codes for ADP WFN

Issue

The ADP Workforce Now (WFN) export file is outputting paid tips under the Earnings 5 Code or Amount, but ADP requires tips to be classified under the Earnings 3 Code (or another specific custom earnings code).

Cause

This usually happens because the tip earnings code in your 7shifts integration settings is either set to a default value or left blank.

What to do

Important: "Admin" permissions in 7shifts and your specific 3-digit tip earnings code from ADP WFN are required.

Follow these steps to update your earnings code in 7shifts. This applies if you use the direct export; if you manually upload reports, you may still need to rename columns in your CSV file.

  1. Log into 7shifts and navigate to Apps & Integrations in the left navigation bar.
  2. Select My Integrations and click on the ADP WFN Export integration.
  3. Click the Settings button and select the Custom Export Codes tab.
  4. Locate the field labeled Earning Code for Tips.
  5. Enter the specific 3-digit code required by ADP (e.g., the code for 'Earnings 3').
  6. Click Save.

Caution:ou must contact your ADP representative to set up or verify the correct 3-digit custom earnings code needed for ADP WFN to classify the tips as the desired earning (e.g., corresponding to 'Earning Code 3'). If this Earning Code field is left blank, tips will not be included in your ADP report.
