How 7shifts Applies Dayparts to Shifts That Cross Midnight

Issue

Shifts that start before midnight and end after midnight (e.g., 4:00 PM–12:30 AM) are not being applied to the expected Closing Daypart, even though the shift ends within that Daypart’s time frame.

This happens because of how 7shifts defines and applies a “work day.”

What To Do

⚠️ You must have Admin permissions to adjust your Dayparts settings.

7shifts treats each work day as running from 12:00 AM–11:59 PM. This means:

  • A shift belongs to the day it starts, not the day it ends.

  • A shift that begins Thursday at 4:00 PM and ends Friday at 12:30 AM is considered a Thursday shift.

  • If your Closing Daypart starts after midnight, the 7shifts interprets it as part of the current day’s early morning, not tied to the previous night’s shift.

To ensure overnight shifts fall into the correct Daypart, your Daypart must start before midnight and extend past midnight.

Follow these steps to correctly set your Closing Daypart:

  1. Log in as an Admin.

  2. In the left navigation bar, select Settings.

  3. Select General.

  4. Navigate to your Dayparts settings.

  5. Edit your Closing Daypart so that it begins before midnight and ends after midnight (for example, 11:00 PM to 1:00 AM).
