Messaging allows a conversation with your team, with every Location, Department, and Role having their very own messaging group. Every Employee who is assigned to the group has the ability to post comments, reply, and upload attachments.

Chats by Location, Department, and Role
To start a back-and-forth conversation with a Location, Department, or Role group, tap the 'New Group Post' tab and tap on the group you'd like to message. You'll notice you've been assigned to certain groups based on the Locations, Departments, and Roles you've been assigned to.
Chats by individual or custom groups
To send a message to a specific person, tap the '+' icon in the bottom right corner and select 'New Chat'.
You can create a custom group chat by adding more than one person. Select one or more people to add to the chat, then tap 'NEXT'.
You can also customize the group chat name at the top of the page.
From within a chat, click the 'gear' icon to open the chat settings.
This will allow you to:
- Re-name the group chat
- Mute the notifications
- Add people to the chat
- Archive the chat - archiving a chat will remove it from your Recents list. It will come back when someone in the chat sends a new message.
Effectively convey your message by starting a conversation and choosing from a range of actions:

If someone has added a reaction, you can tap on it to add the same one for yourself:
Or, you can add a different reaction, by clicking on the emoji icon (that reveals itself once a reaction has been added to the message) and selecting a new one from the preset menu:
To see who has reacted to a message, long press on the message and select a 'Reactions' from the dropdown menu. Or, click on the emoji icon on the message, and select 'Reactions':
This will reveal the users who have reacted to a message, and the emojis they selected:
To remove a reaction, click on your reaction and it will disappear. Or, long press on the message and click on the reaction again to remove it.
Long press on the message > tap on Comment in thread > begin typing your response > click the paper plane icon to send it:
To continue a thread, tap on 'x' comments:
From within a thread, long press on a message to react, copy, report, or delete a comment:
- Depending on the user's notification settings, all participants within a thread will receive an email or SMS notification once a comment has been added.
To delete a message, long press on the message, and select 'Delete message':
Alternatively, users can choose to report the message. To do this, long press on the message, select 'Report Message', click and add any notes/comments before sending it:
When you archive a chat, it will remove it from your view.
Open the chat, and click on the user names at the top of your screen:
Select Archive Chat:
If you wish to unarchive a chat, you can start a chat with the same users to retrieve the same conversation.

⚠️It isn't possible to delete a message from a user-level type above you (i.e: an Assistant Manager cannot delete a message from a Manager).
Alternatively, users can choose to report the message. To do this, long press on the message, select 'Report Message', click 'Report Abuse', and add any notes/comments before sending it:

Roster Talk Chats
TIPS for Roster Talk
- If an Admin is set to 'Appear as employee' in their account, and is NOT scheduled, they will be included in any 'Not Scheduled' Roster Talk chats / announcements
- 'Today' is considered a shift that falls within any Hours of Operation for the Location. Click Here for info on how to set or change your Hours of Operation.
- If an Admin is set to 'Appear as employee' in their account, and is NOT scheduled, they will be included in any 'Not Scheduled' Roster Talk chats / announcements
- Employees will only be able to message within Locations, Departments, and Roles they are assigned to.

"Message your Manager on Duty"
⚠️ Please ensure your Locations/Departments/Roles, and user assignments are in good standing to ensure your Employees can start a chat with their designated Manager
When your Employees log into the mobile app, they will see the option to "Message your manager on duty":
By clicking this button, 7shifts will search for an available user and continue to the next step until one condition is met:
- Look for Assistant Managers scheduled to work in the same Role as employee
- Look for Managers scheduled to work in the same Role as employee
- Look for Assistant Managers scheduled to work in the same Department as employee
- Look for Managers scheduled to work in the same Department as employee
- Look for Assistant Managers scheduled to work in the same Location as employee
- Look for Managers scheduled to work in the same Location as employee
- Look for all Admins of the company and start a chat with them if no previous criteria was met
