Overnight shifts that cross pay periods: how 7shifts allocates hours and breaks

In 7shifts, overnight shifts that start in one pay period and end in the next are fully allocated to the pay period in which the shift started. This includes any breaks taken during the shift, even if a break punch occurs after midnight.

7shifts allocates an overnight shift based on the shift's start time, not its end time. If a shift starts before midnight and ends after midnight, the entire shift (including all hours worked) belongs to the pay period that contains the start date. 

Pay periods in 7shifts act as containers. A shift is assigned to a container based on when it begins, and it stays in that container regardless of when it ends.

How breaks are handled during overnight shifts

Breaks during an overnight shift are allocated to the date the original punch started, not the calendar date when the break occurs. Even if an employee punches out for a break after midnight, the break is attached to the original shift punch and counted within the pay period in which the shift began.

Breaks belong to the punch, not the day. 7shifts reads each break as part of the labor shift it's attached to, so a break crossing midnight does not affect how hours are allocated or split across pay periods.
