How to Bid on an Open Shift

When an Open Shift is published, multiple Employees can request to pick it up by bidding on the shift. The Manager then decides who to assign the shift to.

In this article, you'll learn how the bidding process for open shifts works in 7shifts.

⚠️ To allow Employees to bid on Open Shifts, an Admin must enable Shift Pool within the Account's Company Settings.

Shift Pool Bidding on Open Shifts

Mobile 📱 Web 🖥️
  1. Once a Manager publishes an Open Shift, it appears in the Shift Pool for eligible Employees in the 7shifts mobile app.
  2. From the bottom navigation, tap on on the more menu, and open the Shift Pool page to bid on the Open Shifts they wish to take.

  3. Managers receive a push notification each time an employee bids on an open shift. From the mobile app, they can open the shift, select the desired employee from the bidding list, and tap the Assign to [Employee Name] button at the top of the screen.

  4. The Employee whose bid is approved gets a push notification confirming the shift is now on their schedule.

Note: To trigger shift bid notifications, a manager must officially approve or deny the request. Once the open shift is assigned, the assigned employee will be notified of the approval, and all other bidders will receive a notification that their bid was declined. The shift will then be removed from the Shift Pool.
